Microsoft Pro Photo Tools provide a FREE set of tools photographers can use to perform various tasks with their images—including tagging and RAW codecs
   
Lupas File Renamer. A nice free tool for renaming files, very flexible but easy to use. If your fed up with your photos being called DSC00102 or IMG_82363 etc then you can rename them in batches to give them more meaningful names, Works with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7
   
Eraser. A free tool to permanently delete files and make them non-recoverable. Works with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7

PixResizer. A free and very simple to use photo resizing program to easily create web and e-mail friendly versions of your images with reduced file sizes. The reduced files are saved in a different folder, so your original images are not altered at all. PIXresizer offers several different resizing methods to choose from and can automatically recognize image sizes to calculate the best fit. In addition, it can convert between image formats (JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG and TIFF), rotate images, convert to greyscale and resize multiple images in batch mode
   
ExifPro. A free tool which can display images in different view modes. Selected images may be copied, resized, cropped and adjusted using tools offered by ExifPro. ExifPro can also present information embedded in JPEG photographs (EXIF block) describing different parameters digital camera used while taking a shot.
   
Dynamic Photo HDR. A Free Version of a commercial tool to produce HDR images. Ideally you can use it to combine several images of the same scene taken at different exposures, but it does a pretty convincing job with just a single file. This free version is fully functional and not time limited but is Version 3.4 - The newer version 4, adds some additional features. NEF Codec. Allows Windows to display thumbnails of NEF (Nikon RAW) files, in the same way as it does with JPG. This is version 1.8 which adds support for the NEF format used by the D300s, D3000 and D5000.
